When a successful footballer’s son manages to make it as a player at a high level, interest spikes in what that player’s whole family tree is up to. As a result, it’s no surprise that such an interest has been taken in Erling Haaland’s relatives.
Following in father Alf Inge Haaland’s footsteps in playing for Man City, he looks set for a potentially record-breaking career, if numbers so far are anything to go by
His mother, Gry Marita Braut, is an accomplished athlete herself. The champion of Norways Heptathlon, an event that consists of the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200m sprint, long jump, javelin throw, before ending in an 800m run.
Clearly genetically blessed, Erling’s time in the limelight has led to many looking into the lives of his siblings, and while information is limited, here you can find all we know about Erling’s immediate family.
To answer the main question, yes Erling Haaland does have siblings.
Haaland’s Siblings
He has a sister named Gabrielle Braut Haaland, who has a decently successful Instagram with 109k followers. Despite a path into the life of an influencer, she seems to have no plans to rely on making a living as a social media star.
Born January 9, 1998, two and a half years older than brother Erling.
From the age of 17, she has helped out at Kleppheimen, a nursing home specialising in caring for dementia sufferers, which she still actively works according to her Linkedin.
However, she also seems to work at Sivdammen Sykehjem, listing Sivdammen or ‘The Reed Pond’ as her current place of work, meaning she likely commutes between the two.
She grew up working summer and part-time jobs much like a typical teenager/young adult, before spending a year in the military, likely as part of Norway’s soft mandatory service, joining in 2017.
She studied Language, social studies, and economics in high school
Before starting military service, she worked as a supermarket checkout clerk, a post she resumed after her service ended, leaving it to focus on her career as a Healthcare assistant.
She is married to Jan Gunnar Eide, who is a semi-professional footballer, playing for the Norwegian 5th division side, Nærbø IL, with whom she has two children, a girl and a boy aged 1 and 3.
Haaland’s other sibling is called Astor who is 5 years older than him. Much less is known about him, the older brother preferring to avoid the public eye.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from a Norwegian business school and currently works in Corporate financing for Arctic Securities, after a successful 3-month internship.
Football Playing Relatives
You may be a little underwhelmed that Erling was the only of his siblings to pursue football, but other family members in the Haaland lineage are set for promising football careers.
Two to be exact, maternal cousins Albert Braut Tjåland and Jonatan Braut Brunes.
Tjåland has some real promise. Aged 19 and trying to break into Molde’s first team. As an under-18, he scored 69 goals in 48 games, emphatically echoing Erling’s goal-scoring prowess.
While he has tapered off somewhat, struggling to find game time at Molde, confined to their second team, there’s still plenty of time for Erling’s cousin to come good.
Finally, Jonatan Braut Brunes has done well to make a name for himself, having signed for Belgian side OH Leuven for 2.6 million Euros in the most recent summer transfer window. 23 years of age, just like Erling, he looks like a decent centre-forward.
He hasn’t quite set the Belgian second division alight as of yet, scoring 2 in 11, but to have 3 professional footballers in the family, within a 4 year age gap is quite impressive.
Time will tell how it works out for them, but there’s still every chance we one day see a link-up between Haaland and one of his cousins.
